Ultrasound (USG) is a vital tool in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology (OBGYN), used for a variety of purposes such as pregnancy monitoring, fetal anomaly screening, prenatal diagnosis, gynecological exams, tumor diagnosis and treatment, among others. Hence, USG holds significant importance in OBGYN and is expected to continue to be valuable in the future.


In OBGYN, USG can be used for several different purposes, with pregnancy monitoring, fetal anomaly screening, and prenatal diagnosis being the most common.





Pregnancy monitoring is one of the most frequent procedures carried out in OBGYN, and USG plays a crucial role in this monitoring. USG is regularly performed to monitor the growth and development of the fetus during pregnancy. This helps to check if the baby is developing healthily and detect any possible issues at an early stage.


Fetal anomaly screening is performed to detect congenital anomalies in the fetus at an early stage. This screening is usually conducted between the 11th and 14th weeks of pregnancy, and USG is used to measure various parameters such as fetal size, nuchal translucency, and heart rate. Based on these measurements, any potential issues can be identified and necessary interventions can be made.


Prenatal diagnosis aims to identify possible genetic problems in the developing fetus during pregnancy. This screening involves analyzing the data obtained from fetal anomaly screening, along with invasive methods such as amniocentesis or chorionic villus sampling. USG is used to ensure that the samples are taken from the correct location and to analyze them.





With advancements in USG technology, it is expected that its usage in OBGYN will continue to expand and improve in the future. One of the main reasons for this is that new technologies can provide more detailed and realistic imaging of the fetus. Especially, with 3D and 4D USG technology, the organs, bones, and other structures of the fetus can be seen more clearly. This can help in the early detection and treatment of congenital anomalies, resulting in higher rates of healthy births.


Furthermore, Artificial Intelligence (AI) plays an essential role in analyzing USG data in OBGYN. AI algorithms enable faster and more accurate analysis of the data obtained from USG imaging. This technology allows doctors to make earlier and more accurate diagnoses in areas such as pregnancy monitoring and fetal anomaly screening.


AI algorithms can automatically identify and analyze the fetus's organs, enabling doctors to obtain information about the fetus's health more quickly and accurately. They can also predict the fetus's development based on previous USG results and detect potential problems at an earlier stage, enabling doctors to intervene more quickly and effectively.


AI technologies allow for more detailed analysis of USG results and a more thorough examination of the data, providing valuable information for doctors in making accurate diagnoses and treatment plans.
